About lenses at Date Opticians
Single vision lenses
Single vision lenses, whether for distance or close up vision, have a single ‘prescription’ across their entire surface.
Thinner and lighter lenses
At Date Opticians, our ‘high-index’ lenses use the latest digital technology to deliver the clearest field of view. They’re thinner and lighter than ever before. So they are comfortable to wear and great looking too.
With bifocal lenses, you get the benefit of distance and near correction in a single lens. The near vision part, visible on the front of the lens, is where the extra ‘power’ is provided to help you read clearly.
Because the line dividing the two parts of the lens is visible, most people prefer varifocal lenses.
Varifocal lenses have a gradual change in power from distance to near and offer the convenience of natural vision at all distances, in one pair of glasses.
However, unlike bifocals, there is no visible line on the lens itself. So varifocals are often seen as a better option from a cosmetic point of view.
Photochromic lenses do much more than correct your vision. They adapt to changing light levels. Whether you’re indoors, outdoors, or moving between the two, they continuously adjust to the light, reducing glare and eye fatigue.
The photochromic lenses offered by Date Opticians have been chosen for their excellent performance. They change colour quickly in response to changing conditions.
All our lenses can be provided with special coatings to enhance their performance, to suit your preferences and lifestyle. Here are some of the most common options:
Scratch resistant coating
As the name suggest, scratch resistant coatings protect your lenses from the thousands of tiny scratches and marks than can build up even during normal use.
Reflection-free coating make your lenses clearer and more transparent so you look better in your glasses. They cut out distracting reflections from bright lights.
Ideal for people whose lifestyle involves the need for clear, uninterrupted vision in bright light situations – for example when driving at night, viewing computer screens and playing sports. Date’s reflection-free coatings are a great enhancement to your lenses.
Many people wear sunglasses in summer but few realise that it’s the UV coating of some sunglasses, rather than the dark tint, that is just as beneficial.
UV is present in light all year round and over time can have a harmful effect, contributing to cataract development and other eye conditions.
By filtering out the ultra violet part of the light entering the eyes, UV coating can reduce eye strain, eye fatigue and even tiredness.
Any lenses can be enhanced with UV coating – not just sunglasses. So you can protect your eyes year round, not just in summer.
